ADL calls on Greek government to condemn firebombing attack on Crete synagogue

NEW YORK (Press Release)– The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Thursday called on the government of Greece to “publicly and forcefully condemn” an anti-Semitic arson attack against a synagogue on the island of Crete.

“It is disappointing that the Greek government has so far failed to condemn the shocking arson attack targeting a synagogue on the island of Crete,” said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. “The prime minister was forceful in condemning the recent firebomb attack aimed at the Greek Parliament, saying that ‘democracy cannot be terrorized,’” said Mr. Foxman.  “We would hope that, in the same spirit, he would publicly and forcefully condemn the firebomb attack on the Etz Chaim synagogue in Hania.”

On January 5, a fire was intentionally set inside the historic Etz Chaim synagogue and a bar of soap left outside, presumably invoking the common Greek anti-Semitic expression, “I’ll make you into a bar of soap.”

ADL has written to Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, urging his government to condemn anti-Semitism and to ensure the safety and security of the Jewish community of Greece.

“The previous government remained silent when synagogues were attacked and Jewish cemeteries desecrated, sending a message of insecurity to the Jewish community and of impunity to those who perpetrated the attacks,” the League’s Mr. Foxman wrote to the prime minister. “We hope your government will change that policy and declare that anti-Semitism has no place in Greece.”

Our thoughts must be more wide. At first we see what they want. But the truth it’s not always clear. The “State Department of USA” from the first time try to make an issue: “http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2010/01/135479.htm”. They should explain that the arsonists were U.S. citizen and British citizens who worked on the American Base in Chania. THEY WERE NOT GREEK CITIZENS. The main question is why they want to make this issue? Why? Why they want to make problems between Greece and Israel. Why? I think i know why, but its better for you to search and find. Watch for Greek enemies and friends. Watch for your enemies and friends. Search…

Sir, your hasty accusations against the Greek people and Greece, the only nation whose Church and the people protected Jewish -Greeks during the Nazi occupation as best they could, only reveal the political motivation and your dishonest stance. I wonder, who would benefit from bad-mouthing Greece and its people right now? You did not even wait for results of police investigations.
The collective responsibility attributed to the Greek nation for past and present acts of anti-Semitism, which is a NAZI method you practice now, is not only abhorent but also demeans yor own history and obligation to truth. Your accusations are based on conjecture and pure historical ignorance. In the most recent attacks on the Synagogue of Chania, the culprits are 2 Americans and 2 Brits plus a single Greek accomplice. This rush to judgment and the wholesale condemnation of Greece – without any evidence of state or broad community complicity – should not have been tolerated by ADL, but you grasped the opportunity to show-case your anti-hellenic menace.

You have the audacity to assign blame on the Greek nation for crimes committed against her citizens by the Nazi occupational government. Greece fought against the fascist Italians and the Nazi Germans, and endured a triple occupation (the third aggressor being Bulgaria) that cost her approximately half a million citizens killed, countless more wounded, and massive damages to her infrastructure. The Nazis perpetrated numerous slaughters of entire towns and villages, inlcuding the mass murders of Jewish-Greeks, whose only crime was being Greek or Jewish. To even consider placing any blame on Greece for crimes committed against any of her citizens – Christian or Jewish – is tantamount to absolving the Nazis from these crimes!

The arsonists have been found. They are personnel from the American Base in Creta (Souda), 2 Americans and 2 Britons. They were found using the surveillance cameras of the surrounding shopping stores.

There is something very sick going on there. Investigate more. Find your true enemies.

(Final hint: Mossad agents helped the Greek police in the ivnestigation.)
