AJCongress condemns arson attack on Yasuf mosque

NEW YORK (Press Release)–The arson attack on a mosque in the West Bank village of Yasuf is an unspeakable outrage and a profound embarrassment to the entire Jewish people. Those responsible for the attack damaged not only a peaceful holy place, but the possibility of Jewish-Moslem reconciliation. What is most disturbing of all is that the latter was likely the very purpose of the attack.

If anything good can come from this evil act, it will come from the relative restraint so far displayed by West Bank Palestinians, the vigorous response of the Israeli government in condemning the attacks and pursuing the perpetrators, and uniform condemnation of the attack by Jewish religious leaders.

The American Jewish Congress adds its voice to other condemnations of the Yasuf attack. We look forward to the speedy apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for this vile act.
